Classroom Rules and Procedures

In order to make our classroom safe and fun, I will ask the students to follow these rules:

1. Be prepared and listen to the directions the first time they are given.

2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.

3. Ask for permission to leave your seat or the room.

4. Keep your hands, feet and objects to your self.

5. Be polite and kind. Show respect for everyone and everything in the room.

I will follow the consequences that are used by your child's classroom teacher and I will call you if I have any concerns.

The students will be rewarded for following the rules with praise from the teacher, a positive report to their regular teacher, a note or a call home.

My goal is to create the best possible learning environment for your child and all the students in their classroom. Students will be asked to stay in their seat unless they have permission to do otherwise. One boy and one girl may be excused at a time to use the bathroom, drinks of water should be done before or after class and pencils may be sharpened during the first few minutes of the class. A special pass will be given if the child needs to go to the nurse.

We do a variety of activities during the period, therefore the students need to look and listen for the "Dame 5" (Give me 5) command. The alerts the students that we are going to change activities and they will receive new directions.

Student Evaluation and Assessment

There are many ways to assess learning for Spanish, Health and Art. We use the traditional quiz as well as the rubric which is a scoring tool that lists specific criteria student's must meet in order to achieve a certain grade. When we evaluate a student we look for listening skills, speaking effort and classroom participation. All of these are very important! For Art we use different criteria such as following directions, proper use of materials, effort and development of skills. We use the same system on the new report cards.
