TEACHING 5th GRADE MATH TO ALL 5th GRADERS IN 2012-2013. Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school for Mathematics class:
|
November 20th, 2012: Beginning on Monday, November 26th (the beginning of the 2nd marking period), students will not be able to correct a test to improve their grade unless their test score is below 65% and the original test score will count as 2/3 of their grade and the other 1/3 will come from their grade after corrections. This should eleviate problems with test scores being artificially inflated. As a result, marking period 2 grades in math may decrease from the marking period 1 grade.
Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Labrecque
November 20th, 2012: Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving with their loved ones. See you next week. Mr. Labrecque
September 21st, 2012 All of my 5th grade math classes have taken/are taking presently their Topic 1 test. I am available for extra help according to the schedule posted with our daily homework if students would like extra help or need to make corrections on their test to improve their grades. The classroom policy is that students have three days to see me to make corrections to their test if they scored a 80% or lower, so if your son/daughter brought home a test today (5Le and 5Mc classes) your son/daughter has until Wednesday at 3:05 pm to have arranged to meet with me to correct the test. Wishing everyone a great weekend! Mr. Labrecque
September 10th, 2012, Welcome back to school! I have three great 5th grade classes this year. I am really excited to be working with such nice children. It should be a great year!
Mr. Labrecque
August 7, 2012 I hope everyone is having a great summer! A few more weeks of summer vacation to go. Enjoy your summer and I'll see you in September. Mr. Labrecque June 14th, 2012: Tomorrow is our last day of school. It has been a pleasure teaching Mr. Fricano's and Mrs. McWilliams's students Math this year. I hope they learned a great deal and they will be very successful as 6th graders starting in September. Have an enjoyable and safe summer!!! Mr. Labrecque
May 18th, 2012: Mr. Fricano's IC class should be studying and practicing on quizlet.com for their 2nd (January words) Wordmaster test on Friday (5/25/12). Words seen on the first test may be seen on the second test so students should be familiar with all 50 words we have learned so far this year. Have a great weekend! Mr. Labrecque
May 4th, 2012: Mr. Fricano's homeroom has started working on Wordmasters List #1 in I.C. class. The link to the quizlet practice materials are found on my I.C. page to the left. Make sure you click on the List #1 (December) words which are now at the top of the I.C. page. Thank you.
March 27th, 2012: 5L will take their Wordmasters list #3 test this Friday (3/30/12), which is the last day of the 3rd marking period. 5M and 5Mc will take the same test on Wednesday, April 4th during their Language Arts or Math classes.
March 19, 2012: The wordmasters list #3 words are now posted above for 5L, 5M and 5Mc classes to begin to study. I am planning to give the wordmasters test to students the week before our April vacation.
January 3rd, 2012: Welcome back to school and happy 2012!!! Hope everyone had a great week off from school and is preparing to get back into the swing of things as we enter a new year. Mr. Labrecque
November 22, 2011 I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving with their friends and family. Enjoy your time with those closest to you. Mr. Labrecque November 1, 2011 Hope everyone had a great Halloween and got lots of candy. The costumes I saw in school and at the parade at school were awesome! Mr. Labrecque ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hope everyone is enjoying their Columbus Day weekend! Did you do anything fun this past weekend? See you tomorrow at school. Mr. Labrecque ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a great Memorial Day weekend class! See you on Tuesday.
Mr. Labrecque ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We have added a few high frequency words to our vocabulary the past 2+ weeks (see above). Please practice them at home. Thank you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you Moms for coming into our classroom on Friday for Mother's Day Tea with our class. We had a great time! -------------------------------------------------------------------- April 4th, We are coming to the end of the chapter in Math about money. It would be a good idea to practice recogizing the coins and counting the value of various coins. It looks like we will have a test on this material tomorrow if you have a chance to look over the work your child has brought home the past week. Hope everyone had a great weekend! Mr. Labrecque
-------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you Special Persons for coming to our classroom to visit us. We had a great time with you!!! Mr. Labrecque's Class March 24th, Tomorrow is Special Person's Day at school from 9:00-10:00 am. It should be a really fun day!!! Please send in a book to read with your Special Person tomorrow. It can be a book that you read to your Special Person or a book which you would like your Special Person to read to you. Thank you. Have a great weekend!!! Mr. Labrecque ---------------------------------------------------------------------- March 14th: We are beginning to work in Math on counting to 100, count by 2's, count by 5's and count by 10's (using a 100 chart looking for patterns). It is a pretty tough concept that parents may want to reinforce at home. Good seeing parents at parent/teacher conferences last week. Thank you so much for your help. Mr. Labrecque February 7th, Parents, I came across a great math site that is a great review for using a ten frame as well as great practice for adding numbers. The site is http://illuminations.nctm.org/ActivityDetail.aspx?ID=75 and I hope your child enjoys it. I think it is a great site to use to practice math facts. Other games to play for K-2nd grade students can be found at: http://illuminations.nctm.org/Activities.aspx?grade=1 The high frequency word "see" was added to the list today. Please practice that word at home along with our other high frequency words. I'm sending home a note to send to school a shoe box to hold our class Valentine's Day cards. Our Valentine's Day party will be at 10:45 am on Friday. I believe Mrs. Mannion and Mrs. Petrone will be coming into our classroom for the party. We'll celebrate the 100th day of school on Friday as well (most likely from 9:15-9:55 am). There was a note sent home last week asking each child to send in 100 items from home (pennies, M&M's, Skittles, cereal, etc.) so we can count to 100, which represents the number of days we have been in school this year. Let me know if you have any questions and if I don't see you before Friday, have a great week off from school next week. Mr. Labrecque ---------------------------------------------------------------------- January 19th, We have learned the words one, two, three, four and five. You can practice these words at home if you would like. We have been blending words as well at school. Words such as: Pam, Sam, am, sap. Hope everyone is doing well. Mr. Labrecque ---------------------------------------------------------------------- December 2nd Kindergarten Parents: Each child should have brought home a mini book to read to you this evening. Please have your child read the book with you and return the book to school in a day or two (returning the book on Monday would be fine). If your child would like to write a letter to Santa which will be published in The Coast Star, a handout went home on Wednesday. Please return the letter by next Wednesday, December 8th. A construction paper Christmas tree to decorate went home on Wednesday as well. Please decorate the tree as your child would like and return sometime next week. Have a great rest of your day! Mr. Labrecque ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kindergarten Parents: We are working on our turkey's which are in disguise. Please send the turkey in to school when you are finished. I sent home information about making a Thanksgiving vest on Wednesday, November 10th. Please return the vest on or before Monday, November 15th so we can decorate the vest in prepartation of the Kindergarten feast on Wednesday, November 24th from 9:00am-10:00 am. Also, a reminder that Monday, November 22nd, Tuesday, November 23rd and Wednesday, November 24th are half-days at school. The children will be dismissed at 10:24 am. I will be meeting with each child's parent(s) during conferences on Monday, November 22nd and Tuesday, November 24th. There will be a message sent home with your meeting time for conferences on Monday, November 15th. Have a great Thanksgiving! Hope you and your family have a great holiday!!! Mr. Labrecque -------------------------------------------------------------------- November 11th: I sent home a page a Math homework tonight. The children should be able to do the work quite easily because it reinforces a lesson we did today in class. It should not take more than 5 mins to complete. You will notice homework from this point on with a "Homework" stamp in purple ink on a paper. We may not have homework every day but I may have to send a few papers home each week so I can keep on pace to complete the Math series by June. These homework papers are to be done that day/evening and returned the next school day in the morning. If there is something going on at home and your child does not have time to complete the assignment, let me know about it and take another day to complete the assignment. Thank you so much. |
